Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi were last seen together in Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish. Though Big B was seen in a cameo, it was refreshing to see him and Sri onscreen after a long hiatus, hai na? And now we hear the two versatile actors may work together for the sequel of their 1992 hit Khuda Gawah which was directed by Mukul S Anand and produced by Manoj Desai.
While the script is still being written and everything is in the initial stages, producer Manoj Desai has already spoken to Big B about the sequel. In a recent interview Desai said, “It (film) was one of the most loved films and we thought of bringing it back. We have given a one liner brief idea to Mr Bachchan. We have got a positive feedback from him. Once the script is complete we will meet him again and approach him for this film,”
The Khuda Gawah producer will also approach his original heroine for the sequel. “Once Mr Bachchan gives his nod for the sequel we may go and talk to Sridevi as well about the film. There will be other actors also in the film from the younger generation,” added Manoj Desai.
In fact, if things fall into place, the film might go on floors next year. Well, we are certainly keeping our fingers crossed for this one.
Uncannily, just when stories of Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha coming together in Anees Bazmee’s Welcome Back were doing the rounds, a photo of them together went viral on the internet. The photograph shows Big B sitting in an aircraft posing with the pilot. In a seat behind him Rekha is visible. Real or morphed? While the reports of the legendary screen reunion are completely untrue, the photograph is real.
A source close to Big B reveals, “Amitji was not aware of the other passengers on board. There were many Bollywood personalities travelling to Chennai for a celebration of 100 years of cinema. It is a sheer coincidence that they ended up on the same flight. If someone is trying to suggest a rendezvous here, it is ridiculous. Because if that were the case, they would ensure they weren’t on the same flight.”
It may be recalled that the unpredictable diva had suddenly turned up at a suburban hotel during Big B’s 60th birthday bash, uninvited. She had stormed into the lobby and quickly ducked out without actually entering the venue. Hence Rekha’s presence on the same flight may or may not be a coincidence. But the fact is, they never came face-to-face before during or after the flight to Chennai.
However, sources close to Big B are disgusted by reports claiming he and Rekha are coming together for a film. Says an insider, “He is not doing that film. He isn’t aware of who the other actors in the film are.”
Amitabh Bachchan celebrated 100 years of Indian Cinema in Chennai. He was invited for the event by the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce and felicitated by Pranab Mukherjee, President of India. Big B was quite impressed by the function supported by Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr J Jayalalitha.
The veteran Bollywood actor posted, “What an event. They decorated all the elders of the cinema world not just from the South but from all parts of the country, in all different languages. We in the North and in Mumbai have done nothing on this occasion, but the South does and humbles us all. What a fantastic gesture!! Most grateful and so thankful.”
Amitabh Bachchan met ailing actor Dilip Kumar, who was hospitalised on September 15, at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Actor Saira Banu – Dilip Saab’s wife – was also present with her brother. Big B wrote about Dilip Saab on his blog, saying:
“I had never met him so … in bed, in hospital, ailing and troubled and harassed by all the medical fuss around him … Dilip Kumar!! The great thespian, the wonder of Indian cinema, the ultimate performer in my eyes, lying there in Lilavati Hospital, recovering from a recent mild heart attack!
He seemed cheerful.. at least when he saw me … Saira ji warned me that he had been quite irritable and non-cooperative throughout the day, and so to excuse any kind of untoward behaviour that he may dole out to me … but he was gracious and kind .. Repeatedly he kept saying ‘wah’ ‘wah’ and then slipping into repetitions of ‘Allah’..
But he smiled when he saw me and when I held his hand he gripped it like I would never be able to extricate myself from it … strong and full of strength ..
There is talk to bring him back home soon … that bodes well for him and his family.. May he recover fully as soon as possible … our prayers and ‘duas’ for him?”
Big B reportedly visited Dilip Saab at 7pm last evening and spent 30 minutes with him. Dilip Saab has been shifted to the general ward and may get discharged by Wednesday.
This won’t be first time that Bollywood Actor Amitabh Bachchan is receiving an international honour. Before the Global Diversity Award, Big B was named the Greatest Star of stage or screen of the Millennium in a poll by BBC in July 1999.
“Tomorrow (Wednesday) there is more activity and honour coming my way, by meeting up with the Speaker of the parliament and to be taken around to the most private and secure parts of the structure, ending in presenting me with the Global Diversity Award…so humbling,” he posted on his blog.

The theatrical trailer of Satyagraha has been launched. The film stars are Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Arjun Rampal, Amrita Rao and Manoj Bajpayee
If you go through the trailer, you will find a certain Manav Raghvendra (Ajay Devgn), a father (Amitabh Bachchan) who is grieving the loss of his son, a vicious and influential political figure (Manoj Bajyapee), an ambitious rabble-rouser (Arjun Rampal), for whom action is the knee-jerk mantra and a young woman who fights so hard with life that she has overlooked the emotion called ‘love’.
The film depicts how these characters discover each other and join hands to bring about a revolution to change the system. As the makers define it, ‘Satyagraha’ is also the story of an influential power-hungry despot.
